Subhani Shaik, M.Sc., Cartoon Editor, Deccan Chronicle group of publications, Hyderabad, India. For over 30 years without a break, his daily cartoon column Counterpoint (pocket cartoons) and editorial cartoons have been a regular dose of humour — serious and simple — for more than two million readers of Deccan Chronicle, the largest circulated daily from South India, published simultaneously from Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka And Kerala. His cartoons also appear in The Asian Age daily, published from New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and London. His best and brightest sketches are reflected in 25,000 cartoons and 15,000 illustrations for newspapers and magazines. He has to his credit four books — The Drive, Point-Counterpoint, ‘Adaab Hyderabad’ and Screentoons — which adorn the shelves of many an avid reader in India. He is very distinctive and meticulous while paying attention to the main characters and also to the background which complements his cartoons. It’s small wonder that his works are regularly selected for prizes and featured in catalogues the world over at international cartoon festivals in Greece, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, China, Japan and so on. Subhani’s travel sketches are a class apart and have been widely accepted.
